February Newsletter (a little late!) - Great Events On The Way!

Hello Reader,

This month I attended my first Wassail of 2026, for those of you who are running your own please do send pictures for the next newsletter!

February saw 34 of us taking part in outdoor first aid training with the fantastic trainers from Peritia training. We'll be repeating these sessions again later in the year for those of you who weren't able to join us.

The team were excited to see how many of you are keen to take a lead in co-creating the Walking Festival with Ranger Michael Shilling at our planning session a couple of weeks back.

We have some wonderful events and field trips coming up including our now sold out visit to Wolves Lane for a training day on food growing, read on for info on what else is on offer.

Rewilding Field Trip - Visit Wild Tolworth (South London) - Saturday 25th April

Our first field trip of the year, and it's going to be spectacular!! Visit Wild Tolworth for a rewilding work and learning day with Citizen Zoo. Our visit will include:

  • An overview of the cutting-edge rewilding that has been undertaken at the site
  • Cataloguing species we find during our visit and beyond to contribute to the City Nature Challenge 2026
  • An extensive tour of the site learning about natural and cultural history, the interventions we are carrying out and insights into the everyday joys and challenges of rewilding a large urban space
  • Practical rewilding of the site - options may include activities like wetland plug planting, scrub and bush clearance, debris and litter picking and more (options for all levels of physical fitness will be provided).

Kew Gardens And LNPC Event on growing POC led collectives and community groups - Saturday 6th June

Created with Rangers Shukura, Becky, and Ingrina, the day is inspired by The Second Nature Report, showcasing how a rise in outdoor collectives led by underrepresented communities, particularly racialised groups in the UK, are reclaiming access to nature. We will explore the barriers to accessing nature within People of Colour (POC) communities, celebrate the work of existing community groups and dedicate plenty of time to sharing insights and best practices for a more inclusive, safe and joyful outdoor culture. Kew's staff will introduce us to the Grow Wild Community Handbook. With them we will explore how to sustainably build community groups by supporting leaders and volunteers to thrive.

Alongside this we will have guided tours of Kew and a somatic workshop from Ranger Omari! Don't miss out!
